General

Officially the Republic of Croatia, Croatia is a unitary democratic parliamentary republic in Europe at the crossroads of the Balkan basin, Central Europe, and the Mediterranean sea. Its capital and largest city is Zagreb. The country is divided into 20 counties and the city of Zagreb. Croatia has diverse, mostly continental and Mediterranean climates. Croatia's Adriatic Sea coast contains more than a thousand islands. The most common religious denomination for the Croatian population is in Roman Catholicism.

Stretching magnificently on the Adriatic coast, Croatia has always been referred as one of the most picturesque parts of Europe. The booming travel industry which was interrupted by the war in the ‘90s quickly returned in force and travellers are now flocking to its beautiful coastal and island resorts. The locals call their country “Our Beautiful Homeland”.

Croatia has coastal length of 5 835 km and 1185 isles, from which around fifty-sixty are inhabited and the largest islands are Krk and Cres. With its Mediterranean coastline, Croatia enjoys nearly three thousand hours of sunshine each year. Exceptionally beautiful beaches and the really vast amount of little islands to explore are just some of Croatia’s wonderful features.

Croatia is a truly sensory experience, which will stay in your memory for the rest of your life. Everywhere that you choose to explore your senses will be treated to many delightfully satisfying sensations. The Croatian nation today is proud of itself in its cultural, scientific and artistic contributions to the world, as well as in its wide range of wines, culinary tastes, and sporting achievements.

Weather

Most of Croatia has a moderately warm and rainy continental climate. A continental climate occurs mostly in the interior of Croatia which means that winters can be pretty cold, with temperatures often falling below 0°C/32°F. Snow is very likely, and can be pretty heavy during the winter. The milder sweet Mediterranean climate, occurs predominantly in the coastal areas.

Summers, on the other hand, may offer really high  temperatures often reaching the mid to high 30s °C/high 80s or low 90s °F and when there's sea breeze to cool things out, it can get a little uncomfortable at times. Average temperatures in the interior are expected to be around the low 20s °C/low 70s °F, but could well become much warmer.

The best time to go to Croatia would either be April-May and September. The latter has still glorious, sunny weather with warm temperatures, and the sea will also still be warm enough for swimming. April-May are also good and pleasant months to visit Croatia, as temperatures are already warm enough to pleasant levels and people may experience sunny days all along. In addition, there will be less visitors in either of these months, which could distract your peaceful and relaxing holidays!
